Bloggers Challenge - They Say it's Your Birthday!

Happy Bloggers Challenge Friday! This weeks theme is birthday- I always issue that theme when I myself am in need of a Birthday card.  Tomorrow we're celebrating Joe's 15th birthday - oh my where does the time go?

When I sat down to create, I had a bunch of different ideas, but nothing was working out like I had hoped, so they hit the trash bin.  Then I pulled out some of my Fred B. Mullett stamps and got creating!  I knew they'd be perfect for a masculine birthday card, and something Joe would like. (Note: Fred B. Mullett is currently on the road teaching classes, no orders are shipping until October)

I played around a bit adding color to the Big Pompano, showed it to my DH and he said "is that all you've got, what's with the tag thing".  You see my image is done on a Manilla Tag, and when I showed it to him it was the full tag, before I cut it down.  When I showed him the finished card, he said "that's much better than that tag thing".  I'm happy with the way the colors came out, if you click to enlarge the photo, you'll see the shimmer from the Glimmer Mist.  I added some Faux Netting, by sponging through some Mesh packaging.  The sketch inspiration is from MTSC86, all colored panels are embossed with various Texture Fades folders, color was added to the panels using the Cuttlebug Highlights Technique.

Details:
Stamps - Fred B. Mullett
Ink - Black Archival, Distress Ink Tea Dye, Walnut Stain, Crushed Olive
Card Stock - Black, Manilla Tag, Durango, Olive
Other - Ink Blending Tool, Craft Mat, Texture Fades Folders, Big Shot, Glimmer Mist, Mesh

Have a great weekend!

Boy aren't you brave - tackling the toughest thing of all - a teenage boy card. I can't think of anything harder in card making than that! But you came through. I love that fish - especially with all that shimmer on him and all those neat colors. Great job. Your son is a handsome one. Hope he has a happy birthday!

Love the "reflective" expression on Joe's face! What a kid! Happy birthday to him!

LOVE your card!!! I love that our dh's get into stamping just a little bit by suggesting changes on our cards (little do they realize what great stampers they could actually become!) I especially LOVE the texture!

A perfect masculine card! Your Joe will love it and Happy B-Day to him. Yes they grow up quickly and I just made reference to that, when I bought my G-son a coffee maker and toaster, it use to be toys! Love your CB backgrounds, but that faux netting is awesome and striking with the big fish! Love the DH story!

Great card for Joe -- and my Alex is 6 months behind yours, so I definitely know what you mean. As far as your card goes, I think "the tag think" could have been ver interesting, too! MEN. They just DON'T Get it!

Cool card Lisa! I'm going to need a birthday card for my daughter who will turn 15 in 2 weeks as well! I didn't even think of that when I made my card though, since I have about 4 more birthdays in the lineup before that!

I agree teenage cards are tough! Especially boys. Love the fish and the masked netting is ingenious. the best part though was your hubby's helpful critique. LOL!
