TechnoStamper Sketch Challenge

I've got the right sketch this week - since I was ahead of my self last week. I'm still working on graduation invites - I used my Just Rite Stamp DIY Monogram Stampers to create the "class of 2008" - they are great for adding some personalization to the cards.

Details:
Ink - Black
Card Stock - White, Black
Other - 1-1/4" Circle Punch, 1-3/8" Circle Punch

Grad Money Holder Tutorial

It's that time of year...Graduation....My oldest will be graduating from 8th grade, and we also have numerous other family graduating this summer - so I was in need of something that I could mass produce. These money holders are easy to create and personalize.

See Template

I used the above template I created to make this simple money holder. The "Class of 2008" was easy to create, using my Just Rite Stamp DIY Monogram Stampers - these are great for personalizing your projects as well.

Here's a view of the inside - On the top of the insert (6-1/8" x 2-7/8") - I've attached a 1-1/4" circle folded in half - I stamped my sentiment from Great Grads in black, punched it out with my word window punch, added a piece of red grosgrain, and stapled these items as shown. Be careful not to staple too far down - as this is what will hold your money at the top. At the bottom, I used my Slit Punch to create an opening that will keep my money in place when inserting it into the holder.

Details:
Stamps - Great Grads, Just Rite Stampers
Card Stock - Red, White, Ballet Blue
Ink - Black
Other - Slit punch, Scallop Punch, 1-1/4" Circle Punch, Word Window Punch, 1-3/8" Circle Punch, Red Grosgrain, Western Sky DSP

Here's the Just Rite items I used

Bloggers Challenge - Graduation

Wow - this week is already challenge #45 - how time files! This weeks challenge theme is Graduation - I'll be needing plenty of ideas - as my oldest will be graduating in a few weeks. I decided to use the Double Pocket Fold from a past TJNL - altering mine a bit. When this technique was first posted back in 10/07 - I had used a piece of 6" x 6" paper, and made my flap fold to the front so it opened like a card. That size was too small to hold a gift card - so for my challenge card, I used a piece of paper 9" x 9" - this helped to accommodate the sentiment from Great Grads that I'm using.

Details:
Stamps - Great Grads
Ink - Blue Bayou
Card Stock - River Rock, Western Sky DSP
Ribbon - Double Stitched Blue Bayou

If you'd like to play along - just leave a link to your graduation card on this post, or if you upload to SCS, use keyword BC45.

TechnoStamper Sketch Challenge - Playtime

This is MJ's sketch #15 over at TechnoStamper. Another great sketch, and yes, I've rotated my sketch again to work with this new image from the Playtime Sheet at Artistic Outpost. The image on this sheet is actually fellow DT member Gerrie Johnnic's DH when he was a boy - isn't that cool!

I used the Watercolor Distress Technique from a past TJNL issue. I wanted a soft look for the image so I used distress inks in Scattered Straw and Distressed Rose. The main image is stamped in Ranger Archival Black. I punched a hole in the top and bottom and added black grosgrain tied in a bow - to follow the sketch layout. Be sure to check out the new plates Adventure and Playtime at Artistic Outpost - on sale for a limited time!

For my 2nd card - I kept my layout rotated. I masked my frame from Artistic Outpost's Playtime sheet, stamping it in black. On this one I cut off the bows on the frame. I used eclipse tape across the bottom and side of my frame so I could stamp my flowers from Bloomin' Beautiful. I colored my flower with Groovy Guava, Certainly Celery and Chocolate Chip. I restamped and colored a small portion of the flower images, and placed them on my main image with dimensionals to give it some depth. (Paper Tole Technique). I added a bit of Chocolate Chip around the frame. My image is layered on Basic Grey's Boxer designer paper, then Groovy Guava card stock.

Bloggers Challenge 44 - Color Challenge

It's week 44 of the Bloggers Challenge - and this week brings a Color Challenge. Colors to use this week are Certainly Celery, Brocade Blue, So Saffron, Chocolate Chip, and White or Vanilla if needed. Color Blocking (10/02 TJNL) came to mind - it's the perfect technique for adding colors to your cards.

I stamped my image from Bloomin' Beautiful in black stazon on watercolor paper and water colored my flowers with Brocade Blue, the centers have a bit of So Saffron, and a dot of Crystal Effects to make them pop. The leaves are colored with Certainly Celery. For the vase, I stamped my image on my Afternoon Tea Designer Series Paper, cut out and adhered to my stamped image. I used my sponge dauber to add Chocolate Chip ink around my image. I inked my Sanded Background stamp with Chocolate Chip, stamped off a few times, then lined up my color blocked pieces and stamped my image. The sentiment from Bloomin' Beautiful is also stamped in Chocolate Chip.

For my color blocking - I cut my pieces as follows:
Brocade Blue 5-1/8" x 1-3/8"
So Saffron 3" x 2-3/8"
Certainly Celery 2" x 2-3/8"
Chocolate Chip 5-1/4" x 4"
Base card is Very Vanilla

Be sure to check back tomorrow - as I'll be sharing some sneak peeks of the upcoming new releases from Artistic Outpost.

Have a great Friday!

Bloomin' Beautiful - Artsy Dimension

The background piece on this card uses the Artsy Dimension Technique that I wrote for the TJNL...While I had out my dimensional pearls, I decided to use them as my paints for my flower image from Bloomin' Beautiful. To use your dimensional pearls as paints, simply place a drop in a paint well, or on a scrap of paper, dip in your aquapainter, squeeze a tiny bit of water and mix. Use your aquapainter to paint with the pearls. While my pearly paint was still wet, I poured on some clear embossing powder to add some dimension to my flowers. For the vase - I used the Paper Piecing technique and a piece of my Afternoon Tea Designer Series Paper.

Details:
Stamps - Bloomin' Beautiful
Ink - Black Stazon
Card Stock - So Saffron, Black, Ballet Blue, Watercolor
Other - Cuttlebug Folder, Dimensional Pearls - Lettuce, Butterscotch, Denim, Afternoon Tea DSP, Aquapainter, Clear EP, Heat Gun

TechnoStamper Sketch Challenge

It's Monday, time for another one of MJ's Monday Sketch Challenges....This weeks sketch was a very easy one - I've created 3 different cards to show just how versatile a sketch can be.

For this card, I rotated the sketch on it's side. I used the Burnished Embossing Technique from a past issue of the TJNL, with my Ornate Tooled Leather stamp. I stamped my Silhouette Asters from Starving Artistamps in Blue Bayou Ink on white card stock, then cut out a circle with my coluzzle, I layered this on a piece of Chocolate Chip card stock that I punched with my Marvy Scallop punch, then pierced holes with my piercing tool. The sentiment is from Stampin' Up!'s Love & Happiness rub ons.

For this next card, I used the Wedding Party set from Flourishes. I stamped it in black ink on shimmer card stock, added color with watercolor crayons. I added some Dazzling Diamonds glitter to the body of her dress with my Quickie Glue Pen, then gave her a necklace, and accented her veil and dress with some gems. The sentiment is white embossed.

On this last card I rotated the sketch again, and replaced the circle image in MJ's sketch with a butterfly.

Details:
Stamps - Baroque Motifs, Touch of Nature, Holidays & Wishes
Ink - Pumpkin, Chocolate Chip
Card Stock - Vanilla, Chocolate Chip
Other - Dimensionals, Paper Piercing Tool

Color Collage - Where's Waldo?

My current favorite technique has got to be the Color Collage from the April TJNL - what a great way to add a lot of color and images to one project. For this card I used all Ranger Distress Inks (Old Paper, Frayed Burlap, Brushed Corduroy, Shabby Shutters, Dried Marigold, Broken China and Worn Lipstick). Because the Distress Inks stay wet longer, I used white card stock to stamp my images.

All stamps are from Starving Artistamps - don't forget you can save 10% on all orders from Starving Artistamps - just enter code Lisadis when you check out.

Bloomin' Beautiful Wild Wasabi Card

Here's a card I created using the special-offer Wild Wasabi Card Stock pack. (See details below)

I made a few minor adjustments to the precut/prescored card stock, by cutting it to 4 1/4" x 10". I added the scallop edge by punching with my 3/4" circle punch and soft sky card stock. I attached this where I removed the extra 1 1/2" of wasabi card stock, then covered the edges with my chocolate twill. To create the image, I black embossed it on watercolor paper, then colored with pumpkin, bashful blue and artichoke markers, spritzed lightly to remove some color, blot dry. Now go back and add some highlights with your aquapainter and the following inks - soft sky, groovy guava and wild wasabi. Restamp and emboss your image on Afternoon Tea DSP, cut out the vase, layer it on the first image, cut out completely, layer on a piece of watercolor paper, finish card as shown.

Here's a close up of my vase - as I put it on dimensionals to give it some lift

Garnet Iris

One of my favorite mediums are color wash sprays - there are a variety of different ones available to crafters - two of my favorites are made by Ranger and Stamp Zia. You can make your own color wash sprays (mix dye based reinkers and rubbing alcohol in a spritz bottle) - however I've found them not to be as vibrant as the ready made ones.
Here's a card I created using a morphed version of the Cling and Scrunch Technique (TJNL). Why "morphed" you ask? Well, it's a little creative altering of the technique so to speak.

To start, I placed my watercolor paper into a shoebox and lightly spritzed using my Garnet Color Wash Spray, then quickly placed a piece of scrunched saran wrap over the ink - this not only spreads the ink - but will give you the lines you see in my finished sample. Once my color wash was dry (I cheat and carefully use the heat gun to speed up the drying time) - I removed the saran wrap, and black embossed my Iris image. Using an aquapainter and watercolor crayons, I colored in the stem of the flower - then quickly poured on clear embossing powder while the crayon coloring was still wet, and heat set. This adds a bit of dimension to the image. For my iris, I simply used my aquapainter (no water color crayons needed here), and lightly went over the iris image, while wet, pour on the clear embossing powder and heat.

Here's a close up of the embossed image

Flourishes New Releases and Guest Designer

Things have been quite busy at Flourishes...Today Flourishes is releasing THREE new sets

Along with these new releases, the talented SHARON HARNIST, has joined on as a Guest Designer for Flourishes.

You can enter to win TWO Flourishes stamps sets of your choice just for uploading any card to the SCS gallery that is done with Flourishes images. Be sure to read this thread for more details. Good Luck!

Here's a few samples I did for the new releases, you can see more new release samples here, along with many other Flourishes samples.

These open images from the Wedding Party set are great for using the Paper Piecing Technique. Here, I stamped and embossed the image in chocolate on shimmer card stock. Then stamped and embossed the image again on Afternoon Tea Designer Paper, cut it out and adhered it to my image on the shimmer card stock. I used markers to add color to my bridesmaid and flower bouquet. The sentiment is from the set Wedding Essentials and is stamped in Chocolate Chip. The main image is layered on Chocolate Chip, then a Groovy Guava base.

Here's another card I created that features the Wedding Essentials and Wedding Party sets. The main image is stamped in Black Archival Ink from Ranger on shimmer card stock and heat set, then colored with markers. I used the Stardust Gelly Roll Pen to add a bit of shimmer to the brides dress. The designer paper under the couple is by Teresa Collins .

On this last card I used the beautiful Siberian Iris set. To add dimension and lift to my Iris, I used the Paper Tole Technique (06/03 TJNL). I stamped my images in Black Archival Ink , heat set and water colored them in Lavender and Artichoke. I used the Stardust Gelly Roll Pen to add a bit of glitter to the Iris.
